Labor Day Weekend – Boston, MA

I’ve lived around Boston basically all my life and some times I forget how much there is to do and see here in Boston for a visitor, so I’m going to do more posts on Boston.

I hit up my friend on Sunday night for a good time out in the city. Without a doubt, Cure Nightclub is the hotspot every Sunday night, but even better on a Sunday night before a Monday holiday like Presidents’ Day, Patriots Day, Labor Day, and Columbus Day. You can compare Cure on Sundays to LIV on Sundays in Miami. It’s THE spot to be at. The music is EDM and hip-hop if you’re wondering. Your best bet is to get there early because the line to get in will be wrapped around the block. You can try get on the guestlist, buy a table, or know some people who know some people at the door. Another club/lounge I enjoy is Tunnel, which we also stopped in at that night, is located inside the W Hotel.

On Labor Day, I went kayaking with my cousins on the Charles River. After a night of drinking, kayaking can be a little rough. I think I had a combination of a hangover and seasickness, but I toughed it out and enjoyed the lovely company of my cousins, the 88 degree weather, and the cool river water the best I could. You can rent kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards at Charles River Canoe & Kayak. They have four locations in the Boston area; I went to the one in Allston/Brighton.

We worked up an appetite paddling so we grabbed Japanese hot pot at ShabuZen in Allston. The Chinese Spicy Mongolian broth definitely hit the spot. It wasn’t actually that spicy and it reminded me of my mom’s chicken soup. It was very warming and cured my hangover. Lychee Saketini, anyone?

Travel Apps – GTFO

I mean the app, Get The Flight Out. If you’re a spontaneous traveler like myself, you will love this app! Plug in your home base airport and the app will find the best round trip flights out – domestic and international – for tonight and tomorrow morning. It’ll even direct you to the booking site so you can book right away. It looks like my cheapest flight out today is to Dallas, TX. You’ve got to be quick before these deals are gone. I found a trip to Miami for about $270. I closed the app and checked back 20 minutes later and the deal was gone. Bummer! But that’s okay, Texas has been on my bucket list since forever. Maybe I’ll leave tonight? 😋

San Juan, Puerto Rico

I flew to San Juan, Puerto Rico for a destination wedding and stayed at El San Juan Resort & Casino which was where the wedding was held. As soon as I arrived, I hit up the pool, the beach, and Old San Juan. The architecture of the buildings were gorgeous and so colorful and the cobblestone roads gave it such an old school vibe. While exploring we stumbled upon a lady at a table selling her art work made of cardboard. I was so impressed by her work I purchased a cardboard keyholder for my new home and my friend bought a pretty cardboard flower.

Since it was my first night in San Juan, you know I had to party. My friends and I hit up Brava Nightclub right in our hotel. The line is usually out the door, but guests staying in the hotel do not have to wait in line or pay a cover, so that was a plus. And I may or may not have hit up the strip club after Brava. 😉

Since I partied my ass off the night before, I needed to rehydrate my body. Right behind the hotel on the beach was a food cart that sold pinchos and fresh coconuts. The coconut juice gave me LIFE.

I slipped in to my beautiful Vince Camuto dress for the wedding. With the heat and humidity at 6:00 pm in the Carribbean, wearing a long dress was sort of a bad idea. I like to dance so I was always on the dance floor and everyone, including myself, stepped all over the dress. Nonetheless, I had such a great time with my friends. The wedding was so pretty, the music was on point, and the open bar is always a good idea.

The next day my girl friend and I met up with some of our other friends, who also attending the wedding, at Ocean Park. They were hanging out with their local friends and invited us to the beach. I love being touristy but I also love doing what the locals do. I even got a ride on a moped. We went to dinner at La Jaquita Baya and let me tell you, every single dish we tried was so delicious! I did not get to take pictures of all the foods because we were so hungry. My absolute favorites were the fried shark, whole red snapper, and pork belly mofungo.
